
Richard Marker
Richard Marker has been a chief executive of a philanthropic foundation, a professor, a management consultant for both the for-profit and not-for-profit sectors, and a senior executive of an international not-for-profit.
Currently, Marker serves as an advisor to foundations, independent funders, and not-for-profit organizations, and is a Senior Fellow in Philanthropy at NYU’s George Heyman Jr. Center for Philanthropy. He specializes in strategic philanthropy and planning.
Previously, he was Executive Vice President [ceo] of the Samuel Bronfman [Seagram] Foundation. Marker has served as Vice President for International Affairs of Hillel: The foundation for Jewish Campus Life. Much of his previous career has been connected to higher education. He worked with Hillel for many years at Rutgers, Hofstra, and Brown universities, and as head of its Chicago based mid-west office. When appointed to Brown in 1971, Marker was the first university Ğemployed Jewish chaplain in the Ivy League.
In addition to NYU, he has taught at Hofstra, Brown, and Loyola [Chicago] Universities. For several years, he was the president of The Solutions Group, a management consulting firm specializing in the implementation of strategic plans and corporate culture change.
Marker has a long history of non profit board leadership. These involvements have included organizations and foundations with missions ranging from a global to a local agenda. Currently, his priority is to groups committed to social change.
A Philadelphia native, he has academic, rabbinic and management degrees from the University of Pennsylvania, the Jewish Theological Seminary, and Brown University.
Marker is married to Mirele Goldsmith, his business and life partner, and is the father of Adam, a public interest attorney in Washington, DC.

Mirele Goldsmith
Mirele B. Goldsmith is a consultant specializing in program evaluation, accreditation and training. Prior to working as an independent consultant, Mirele created and implemented an acclaimed accreditation program for Hillel: The Foundation for Jewish Campus Life, where she served as the Director of Professional Development and Accreditation.
Goldsmith’s consulting clients include professional associations, foundations, social service and educational organizations.
A native of Boston, She holds an undergraduate degree from Barnard College, an MSW from the Wurzweiler School of Social Work, and a PhD in environmental psychology from the City University of NY Graduate Center. Her dissertation focused on citizen participation in environmental decision-making, particularly in the area of water policy.
Goldsmith, currently serves on the boards of Hazon, the Hadassah Foundation, and the Heschel Center for Environmental Leadership. She is married to Richard Marker, her professional and life partner, and is the step-mother of Adam Marker, a public interest attorney in Washington, DC.
